Annual Maintenance - The average water heater should live between 8 years and 12 years even if left completely alone. However, there are things you can do to help extend the life span of your water heater system. Just like you should change filters in Heating and Air systems, there are annual maintenance items that can help your water heating system function for efficiently. At least once per year, you want to check and make sure the pressure relief valve is functioning properly. This is an important safety device that all water heating tanks should have. The second annual maintenance you can conduct on your water heater tank is to do a deep flush of your water tank at least once annually to remove the sediment that can settle at the bottom of the tank. ​Tankless water heaters - Tankless water heaters are becoming more and more popular due to several aspects. First, and most importantly, you'll never run our of hot water ever again. The tankless water heater has instant heating capabilities. The tankless water heater is also much more efficient, both in it's physical size as well as it's energy consumption.  Tankless water heaters can take up less room in your house or your utility closet since they don't need huge 30 gallon or 40 gallon tanks to hold the water. They are more energy efficient as well since they don't heat water until it's needed. They don't have to spend all the energy maintaining the heat of a tank of water. Lastly, the life of a tankless water heater is 20 years on average.
